About the Program

In My Own Words

This is a monologue writing class. To make a cross-curricular connection, the students select historic figures studied in one of their history, science, or literature classes. Students are guided through their research using the school library or computer lab. They combine “fact” with “fiction” by creating original monologues. The instructor will introduce dramatic writing techniques in dialogue form. If budgets allow, casting student actors and scheduled rehearsals are added to the program culminating in a performance of the original work. Program can include culminating performance. Recommended eight, 90-minute sessions plus rehearsals and performance if desired.
