Written & performed by Kenny Klein

Play Summary: Sea Dog Chase, as scurvy a pirate as ever sailed the seas, enters bellowing a pirate song. He introduces himself and explains that he is on a mission for his captain, Bartholomew Roberts. Bearing a map filled with rhymed clues, he asks the students to help him hunt for a treasure, which turns out to be buried in the literature about pirates. While students discover hidden passages from books like “Peter Pan”, and “Treasure Island”, Sea Dog Chase compares those literary creations with the authentic pirate life he has led and the historical facts about 18th Century outlaws of the seas. He shares the histories of Edward Teach, the notorious “Blackbeard,” as well as such female pirates as Grace O’Malley, Mary Read and Anne Bonney . Period ballads like “Polly on the Shore” and literary passages from J.M. Barrie and Robert Louis Stevenson awaken a lighter side to Sea Dog. Instead of following the path of an ocean-going gangster, he decides to take the route of an honest, upstanding citizen.
